A group of 20 girl students from the three districts of West Siang, Subansiri and Papumpare of Arunachal Pradesh met the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 19, 2009. The students were on a visit to Delhi and some parts of Northern India under a programme run by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). All of the girls were from the remote areas of the state and except for one, none of them had ever travelled by train. The President told the girls that education is very important, as it gives knowledge. Knowledge would provide the girls the tools to contribute to national development. The President also urged the ITBP to organise such educational tours to other parts of the country also.
